I have a question are you ready to be used by God in His plan?
I Samuel 17:34-37
34 'But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,
35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.
36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.
37 ” Moreover David said, “The Lord , who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”'
- It is amazing here is a young shepherd boy chosen by God to face a literal giant named Goliath.
- God called a simple young boy to show His greatness through and inspire the army of Isreal.
- David didn’t even hesitate when he heard the call of God. How this world would be different if we as Christians would step up the with same enthusiasm. The sad part is we are more like the Israelite army and fear stepping out and claiming the victory of God’s work.
50 'So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
52 Now the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance of the valley and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell along the road to Shaaraim, even as far as Gath and Ekron. '
- Charles Spurgeon said “The way to do a great deal is to keep on doing a little. The way to do nothing at all is to be continually resolving that you will do everything.”
- David didn’t wait to serve God till he was a great warrior. He served Him as a simple shepherd boy and God used him to accomplish great things.
- This is a great reminder that God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called. It doesn’t matter how insignificant we feel or how unprepared, God can use us to accomplish His purpose.
- God did not choose David because of his appearance or his social status. He chose him because of his heart. That is what set him apart from everyone else!
- God doesn’t choose the way the world does. He doesn’t look at the outward appearance. He looks at the heart. He doesn’t care about societal standards or expectations. He chooses by His divine wisdom and purpose.
- Look at this little country church in a hundred-year-old building that has been a little bit of everything in it’s life including things we won’t mention. Our septic may not be the best and our floors may be weak in areas, but God knows our heart. He is using this church for that reason. Like David our heart is set on Him and Him alone.
- God chooses and uses our lives in the same way He choose David for a specific purpose. We may say I can’t do that or I’m the not the guy for this job, but God sees us differently.
- He sees our hearts. He sees our potential. He sees what we can be through His power and grace.
- We need to follow the example of David’s courage in this battle. We need to remember though that David’s courage wasn’t based on his own abilities. It was based on his faith in God.
- He knew that God would be with him and that if God had chosen him for the task, God would see him through it.
- This same courage is available to us as well when we face the giants that this world wants to put in front of us. We know that because of God’s presence and power in our lives we can be victorious against these giants.
- This is our source of peace when we face these giants. We can trust in God’s sovereignty. We can rest knowing He is in control, and we can step forward in faith.
- We have faith to know He is with us and if we are in His will He will give us victory.
- David as a young shepherd boy faced a giant opponent in Goliath, a seasoned warrior. David, with no military experience stepped out to confront the threat. He stepped out with no normal weapon of war. He had just a sling and a stone.
- Davids’s faith in God gave him the courage to face Goliath. His courage showed his fellow Israelites that God would see them through, and it inspired them to go on with the battle and see victory themselves.
- Davids words to Goliath showed the source of his courage, “You come against me with a sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Isreal, whom you have defied.” His courage was based in his faith in God and his conviction that God was with him.
- David facing Goliath was a symbol of the spiritual battle we all face when we face the enemies of God.
- This is a great reminder for us that our battles are not just physical; they are spiritual. Our courage to stand for God in the face of opposition reflects our faith and our commitment to God’s cause.
- Like David, when we step forward with that same courage, he had it will be a defining moment in our life. That will be the moment we stand firm against all giants in our life as Christians.
- The problem is folks in our life like Davids, this is not a onetime event it is a way of life. Like David we must always trust in God and stand firm on our faith.
- Like David inspired the Israelites we can inspire other Christians to overcome their fears and face their enemies.
- We need to draw inspiration from that little shepherd boy who conquered a giant and led his people on to victory in so many ways throughout his life.
- As A. W. Tozer said “God is looking for people to use, and if you can get usable, He will wear you out.”
- David was usable he had surrendered to God and He took him on the victory with many others following him.
Rest in God and let Him lead you!
