- We are not just spectators in God’s plan for this world but are active members in His glorious work. We are not just observers but an integral part of His divine plan
- I. Packer a Canadian Evangelical theologian was quoted as saying: “ The healthy Christian is not necessarily the extrovert, ebullient (liveliest, enthusiastic or excited) Christian, but the Christian who has a sense of God’s presence stamped deep on his soul, who trembles at God’s word, who lets it dwell in him richly by constant meditation upon it, and who tests and reforms his life daily in response to it.”
- We want so much to say that the Bible was written for back then and doesn’t pertain to us now.
- Or I read the New Testament and not the old. The old was for them back before Jesus.
'17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, '
- The word Immutable tells us how unchanging God’s character, will and covenant promises are. As the verse says, He will not lie, and His words are constant in our lives.
- Every word, period, comma and even the verse numbers are the word of God and can be trusted as unchanging. It is a word we can and must as Christians build our lives on.
- Mathew 24:35 in fact says “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away”
- If we say everything from Genesis to Revelation is the Holy inspired word of God, then we have to hold the entire book that way. WE CAN’T JUST PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT BOOK WE ARE GOING TO READ AND HOLD AS HOLY!
- Matthew 24:35 is a reminder of the eternality of God’s word. Nothing will out last the word of God. It is the same today, tomorrow and always! His words will be the same when the new heaven and the new earth are here. He and it will remain the same.
' 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.'
We must hold firm to the faith we have of who’s word this is and that as the book of Hebrews told us the immutability of it.
Like Jame 1:17 says “ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is not variation or shadow of turning.”
- We must know to and keep it close to our heart and have faith when the trials and tribulations come against us. His word is going to arm us for the spiritual battles we have to face.
- His word completes us and if we pick it apart and only hold on to certain parts then we are not going to be complete and ready to head the call He places on us.
- We are not going to be ready to fight the enemy when he comes at us reminding us of what we did in our past.
- It was so interesting when I was studying this. The last verses we are going to talk about comes from the end of The Old Testament.
“6 For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore, you are not consumed O son Of Jacob.
7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My Ordinances and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you” Says the Lord of hosts
- He says it so plainly there in verse 6 I do not change. But I tell you we have changed and pulled from Him.
- He says we will not be consumed but we must hold fast to His Son and what was done on the cross by Jesus
- We have to keep Him first and foremost in our lives if we want to enjoy the peace and eternal life He has provided for us.
- These two verses can’t be more plain
- I DO NOT CHANGE AND RETURN TO ME AND I WILL RETURN TO YOU
- How can you mistake what He is saying here.
- If we feel like He is not here for us it is because we have strayed from Him remember He will not change.
- Remember the Immutability of God!
